What is Repair Café?
Do you have things that you like, but no longer work? Don’t toss them, repair them! That might be good advice, but the questions of how to repair, who could do it or for how much still remain.

- In 2014 Californians discarded 31.2 million tons of garbage
- That’s 4.5 lbs of garbage every day for each person in California
- For most manufactured goods it requires 2 lbs of fossil fuel to create 1 lb of the product
- Low Tech Magazine found that for most computers, that the energy required to produce the product (83%) far outweighs the energy to operate it (17%) over its average 3-year lifetime.
We created Repair Café Mountain View as a free alternative to landfilling the things you like that need to be repaired. Repair Café Mountain View is a volunteer-run, community service dedicated to encouraging the repair and reuse of goods rather than relegating them to landfill.
The first Repair Café was started in Amsterdam in 2009. Since then over 1000 Repair Cafés have sprouted up in 24 countries around the globe!
The Repair Café Mountain View is affiliated with the Repair Café Foundation in the Netherlands. Though we are affiliated with the Repair Café Foundation, we are self-funded and operate independently. Learn more about the Repair Café Foundation in the Netherlands: www.repaircafe.org
